Job Opening: Marketing Associate

n+1 is looking for a sharp, curious, and energetic Marketing Associate to work full time in our Brooklyn office. Health benefits are included and salary is commensurate with experience.

The newly created position of Marketing Associate will be responsible for expanding n+1‘s audience and bringing our projects to a growing readership. We’re seeking candidates with strong writing and design skills who can see campaigns through from start to finish while thinking big picture about outreach. A talent for sales is a must; an interest in analytics is encouraged. The Marketing Associate’s day-to-day responsibilities include drafting and sending out newsletters, devising and executing digital ad strategy (e.g. through Facebook Ads Manager), creating and editing graphics for campaigns, overseeing n+1’s social media, publicizing new n+1 books and issues, and planning events. However, we’re looking for someone who sees the sky as the limit—a person with the ambition to bring their own vision to n+1’s publicity and marketing efforts.

Ours is a small, open office of five that values clear, considerate communication and rewards enthusiasm and self-motivation. An attentive email manner is essential, as is a self-directed and organized working style. Applicants should be familiar with n+1’s projects, mission, and editorial voice, and be willing to participate in the day-to-day work of sustaining a small magazine. Ideal applicants will have experience copywriting in various registers, creating campaigns in Mailchimp, and using Facebook Analytics and Ads Manager, as well as basic HTML skills and fluency in Adobe Creative Suite.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Devising and executing online marketing, advertising, and publicity campaigns, including creating images and writing copy
  • Brainstorming, testing, and executing new marketing strategies
  • Managing and authoring n+1’s social media across platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) with the goal of increasing sales and gaining subscribers
  • Tracking and optimizing social media strategies via Google and Facebook analytics
  • Working with the Publisher and Managing Editor on project-specific publicity and outreach, including planning, organizing, and staffing events
  • Selling and placing advertisements in n+1 magazine and on

  • Excellent writing skills
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite
  • An understanding of social media platforms as publishing and marketing tools
  • Enthusiasm for generating and evaluating new marketing strategies
  • An attentive, professional email manner
  • A self-directed and organized working style
  • Familiarity with n+1’s projects and sensibility
  • A strong instinct for sales

Preferred skills:

  • Proficiency in Adobe PhotoShop and Indesign
  • Experience with Mailchimp, Google Analytics, and Facebook Ad Manager
  • Publicity and event-planning experience
