We’re glad to be launching Issue 15: Amnesty with a reading and celebration at 7 PM on Friday, November 30 at one of our favorite bookstores, BookCourt at 163 Court Street in Brooklyn. Julia Grønnevet will read from her account of covering the Anders Behring Breivik trial in Oslo. Kristin Dombek will read from her essay on sex, drugs, and Ryan Gosling in Williamsburg.
The issue also features Lawrence Jackson on growing up black in Baltimore, Nikil Saval on China’s long Eighties, Benjamin Kunkel on the psychopathology of American politics, and an excerpt from Mikhail Shishkin’s extraordinary new novel, Maidenhair. The Intellectual Situation returns to outraged form and takes on the secret history of the American general interest magazine. The issue also includes reflections by Alix Kates Shulman, Ti-Grace Atkinson, Ann Snitow, Chris Kraus, Nina Power, and many more on the pioneering radical feminist Shulamith Firestone.
It should be a fun night, and if you’re in New York we hope to see you there. And if you can’t make it, we hope you won’t wait to subscribe and get the issue just as soon as we have it!
